Vascular Technologist

A Vascular Technologist performs ultrasound and blood pressure studies to investigate the arteries and veins in all parts of the body. They work closely with Vascular Surgeons to diagnose vascular diseases, thus helping in the investigation, management and surveillance of a patient’s vascular disease. Common ultrasound sites include the neck, upper and lower limbs and aorta.

 

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific

  • Perform vascular pressure studies in adherence to department protocol, which are inclusive but not limited to e.g. ankle/brachial pressure index study (ABPI), toe/brachial pressure study index (TBI), exercise ABPI and transcutaneous oximetry (tcpO2)
  • Perform vascular ultrasound studies in adherence to department protocol, which are inclusive but not limited to e.g. arterial duplex, carotid duplex, haemodialysis arteriovenous fistula/graft duplex, vein mapping, venous reflux and deep vein thrombosis duplex, aortic duplex, visceral arterial duplex and thoracic outlet duplex
  • Generate written and diagram reports on the findings of the above investigations
  • Be an integral part of a team approach to the diagnosis and management of arterial and venous disease
  • Manage and organise your time for scans and reports

General

  • Ensures patient safety and comfort under their care
  • Performs daily quality control checks on equipment and oversees the preventive and corrective maintenance with relevant stakeholders e.g. BME
  • Ensures accurate documentation and charging of cases on relevant systems or papers whenever required
  • Ensures reconciliation of diagnostic results and images on systems post down-time event
  • Ensures procurement of supplies and consumables for clinical section for service delivery
  • Participate in regular feedback sessions and multi-disciplinary meetings with the entire team
  • Work in a supportive environment and with the scope to further your training and skills

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education / Training / Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology / Biotechnology / Biomedical Science; Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Diagnostic Radiography or its equivalent
  • Prior experience as a Vascular Technologist or minimum 2 years as a medical sonographer

Professional License

  • Any prior vascular sonography accreditation is favourable (e.g. Society for Vascular Technology accreditation examination [Accredited Vascular Scientist] or American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography [Registered Vascular Technologist])
