Job Description:
The staff nurse is responsible for coordinating total nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care to meet the needs of the patients, including educating patients and families on mental health issues. The staff nurse assists the nurse clinician in the management of the Neurostimulation Services and is also responsible for maintaining the standards for professional nursing practice and working cooperatively with the other members of the healthcare team to provide care that is comprehensive, integrated and cost-effective.
Job Responsibilities:
Duties includes the following:
Participates in Neuro-stimulation treatments - Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) / Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) to maintain high quality nursing care for patients
- Plans, co-ordinates and facilitates ECT and rTMS treatment in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to provide smooth operations of the services
- Functions as a clinical nursing resource to all members of the health care team and provides nursing contributions on patient care management matters
- Collaborates with Nurse Clinician and Assistant Nurse Clinician to review and make recommendations to improve and enhance clinical practice workflow and patient care management under Neurostimulation services
- Demonstrates competence in skills, knowledge and attitude in the care of patients undergoing ECT and rTMS.
- Performs close monitoring of patients undergoing pre ECT, during ECT procedures and post ECT monitoring. Notifies the doctor when there are aberrations in patient’s condition
- Conducts clinical audits as needed to ensure that standards of the profession and expected requirements of the hospital are maintained
- Conducts ECT competency training and training for new staff attached to Neurostimulation services
- Collaborates with other members of the multi-disciplinary team in the management of patients
- Takes opportunities to improve delivery of care through participating in nursing research, clinical improvement projects or quality improvement initiatives
- Provides education to outpatients and their family members on ECT and rTMS
- Practice strict infection control standards in the delivery of patient care
Requirements:
Educational and Professional Requirements
- Diploma / Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Registered with the Singapore Nursing Board
