Sr Therapy Asst
The Senior Therapist Assistant assists Physiotherapist in the supervision of patients as well as the implementation of therapy interventions and outcome measures for routine patient cases.
He/She will independently apply prescribed therapeutic modalities for routine patients as instructed by the Physiotherapist. In addition, he/she may independently conduct group therapy sessions for low complexity patients.
He/She will aid in the provision of training and development through assisting in the supervision of attached therapy assistant students as well as buddying junior Job Grade (JG) 5-6 TA for on-job training for continuing professional development.
He/she will be responsible for operational and administrative tasks such as manpower scheduling, housekeeping and ensuring standards of inventory and equipment maintenance.
Clinical
To assist physiotherapist in the preparation, safe, effective and efficient conduct of the therapy session
- Assessment
- Assist in the pre-consult assessment such as the administration of one rehab outcome measures, vital signs of the patient and outcome measures of which competency has been ascertained.
- Intervention
- Apply electro physical modalities and perform safety checks independently to ensure patient safety.
- Assist in the teaching and supervision of exercises as per Physiotherapist’s instruction.
- Able to make simple modifications to the exercise according to patient’s response after consulting the Physiotherapist.
- Sets up and run group classes with minimal supervision from Physiotherapist for cases screened and deemed suitable to be seen by Therapy Assistants.
- Assist the Physiotherapist in gait training with walking aid for patients
- Assist in implementing segments of one-to-one therapy interventions under Physiotherapist’s supervision.
- Documentation
- Complete simple form-based checklists documentation, with Physiotherapist countersigning the entry as required.
- Patient Safety & Infection Control
- Ensure cleanliness of clinic environment and equipment.
- Ensure clinic equipment are functioning and safe for use prior to the start of clinic.
- Community Integration
- Assist in the enrolment and referral process to various community programmes.
Administrative
- Assist with appointment management to ensure optimum utilization of the slots.
- Clean and maintain therapy equipment.
- Check and update Inventory to ensure the items are sufficient for clinic use on daily operation.
- Monitor select therapy equipment and inventory.
- Ensure standards of cleaning and maintenance of therapy equipment and devices.
- Oversee, reconcile & manage par levels of inventory.
- Monitor inventory of higher value items.
- Collation of stat to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Review and report daily manpower needs.
- Perform other administrative duties as deemed appropriate by the supervising therapist.
Training and development
- Preceptor role: ensure settling in of junior and new therapy assistants and maintenance of standards across all physiotherapy clinics.
- Provide orientation, supervision and guidance to junior/new therapy assistant (JG5-6) for their on-job training.
- Assist in the supervision of TA students on attachment
- Conduct in-service sharing after attending course for continuing professional development
- May participate in departmental/inter-departmental projects
