Sr Research Asst (IDRL)
JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Research Assistant to join our Research Lab. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in microbiology, excellent laboratory skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively on various research projects.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Experimental Design and Execution
- Assist in the design and implementation of experiments related to bacteriology research.
 - Conduct laboratory experiments, including isolation, identification, and characterization of bacterial strains.
 - Collect, record, and analyze experimental data, ensuring accuracy and integrity.
 - Maintain accurate records of sample processing and ensure compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
 - Assist with data entry and management related to sample tracking and analysis.
 - Recognize, identify and resolve problems related to specimens, methods and instrumentation.
 - Perform other duties as directed by supervisors and HOD, including work areas not mentioned here.
 
Technical Support
- Provide technical support to researchers, including the preparation of culture media, reagents, and solutions.
 - Ensure the proper maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment.
 - Ensure cleanliness and organization of the lab space.
 
Quality Control
- Implement and adhere to quality control procedures and safety protocols.
 - Assist in the development, implementation and revision of standard operating procedure(s) and risk assessments for department.
 - Assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, and publications as needed.
 - Assist in the development, implementation and revision of standard operating procedure(s) and risk assessments for department.
 - Maintain proper documentation of relevant research documents, inventories, protocols, maintenance logs, sample processing logs etc.
 - Assist in planning of study logistics, workflow, documentation and execution of new studies, liaising with internal and external parties as needed.
 
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with researchers and other team members to support ongoing projects.
 - Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions regarding project progress and improvements.
 
Mentorship and Training
- Train and mentor junior research assistants and interns in laboratory techniques and safety practices.
 - Assist in the supervision of day-to-day lab operations.
 
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Bacteriology, or a related field.
 - Minimum of 3-5 years of laboratory experience in bacteriology or microbiology research.
 - Proficiency in laboratory techniques such as PCR, culture methods, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
 - Strong analytical skills and experience with data analysis software.
 - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
 - Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
 - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
 - Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
