STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The Pharmacist In-Charge (IC) at the AdMC is responsible for the efficient management of pharmacy operations, ensuring the provision of high-quality pharmaceutical services to patients. 

This role encompasses overseeing staff, processes, inventory management, home delivery services, stock takes, audits, and reporting functions. The IC serves as the Deputy to the Outpatient IC with potential for advancement to Principal IC role contingent upon MOH guidelines.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Review each patient's medication chart or prescription for the appropriateness of the drugs prescribed and to contact the prescribing doctor when an intervention is needed. The review has to ensure that:
    • All orders are clear and specific
    • Doses are prescribed within therapeutic limits
    • Any potential adverse reactions and interactions are identified
  2. Fulfil all drug orders accurately and in a timely manner.
  3. Ensure that all related costs and revenue are accounted for, and accurately recovered.
  4. Dispense medications to patients, explaining the indications for drug therapy and instructions for administration.
  5. Provides drug information to other healthcare professionals.
  6. Delegate, oversee and review the work of assigned subordinates.
  7. Check and release all compounded products, and repackaged unit doses.
  8. Ensure that all sales and supply of medicinal products comply with legal requirements.
    • Records pertaining to all phases of drug receipt, supply, storage and distribution are maintained as required by the hospital and/or legal authorities.
    • Performs inspections of drug storage areas throughout the hospital.
  9. Represent the department in various clinical committees and performs other job-related duties as assigned by the head of department/supervisor.
  10. Review pharmacy procedures and policies periodically and implement schemes to improve pharmacy workflow.
  11. Supervise performance, conduct appraisals, write reports and make recommendations for confirmation, promotion and training needs of subordinates.

 

(B) GENERAL

  1. Actively participate in Pharmacy education and development programmes.
    • Provide lectures to Pharmacy staff and other hospital employees on pertinent topics.
    • Practices continued reading of journals, publications, etc for professional advancement.
  2. Responsible for the implementation and adherence to policies, practices and regulations established by the department, hospital and external regulatory agencies pertaining to pharmacy.
  3. Provide relevant training to pre-registration pharmacists and pharmacy students.
  4. Foster continuous improvements as our way of life by encouraging staff efforts at improving processes to achieve clinical quality and operational excellence
  5. Support the hospital by participating actively in the various activities organized by the hospital. Activities include QC, community projects, staff welfare and recreational activities and etc.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from an accredited University recognized by the Singapore Pharmacy Council.

 

PROFESSIONAL LICENCE

  • Registered with the Singapore Pharmacy Council. Valid practicing certificate.
