Sr/Medical Laboratory Technologist (Microbiology)

 

Job Description

You will assist with laboratory connectivity matters with our Laboratory Informatics Team (LIT), as well as perform a wide variety of molecular microbiology on patient specimens and report results of the tests according to established protocols in the Microbiology Section of the Department of Laboratory Medicine (DLM) in Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) and in the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID). The duties include:

  • Receive and sort specimens, assess suitability of specimens for testing, data entry of test requests, and rejection of specimens that are unsuitable for testing
  • Assist to monitor connectivity performance and resource management in the Section
  • Participate actively in quality improvement projects, and quality assurance and quality control programmes in the Section
  • Assist in initiatives to review and improve processes within the Section to achieve organisational goals
  • Support the Section Leader in operational and administrative matters
  • Any other ad hoc assignments by the Section Leader

 

Job Requirements

  • Preferably Bachelor’s Degree in Laboratory Science, Clinical Microbiology, Biomedical Sciences, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or any other equivalent qualification
  • Min 2 years of experience as Medical Laboratory Technologist in a clinical laboratory. Role seniority and compensation will be aligned with the successful candidate's qualifications and experience
  • Able to work efficiently, meticulously and responsibly in a fast-paced environment independently, as well as in a team
  • Possesses good interpersonal, organisational, coordination, communication, and computer skills
  • Able to work 3-rotating-shift work patterns, including staggered and extended working hours, and coverage after hours and on weekends and public holidays to meet the needs of the department and hospital
