JOB PURPOSE

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director (Head of Advancement Operations), the Communications Specialist is a highly skilled writer responsible for producing communication pieces for both internal and external audiences to support major gift development, direct solicitations, general giving strategies, donor reports and more with a primary goal of increasing donor giving for NHG.

He/she actively participates to support fundraising activities by strengthening written communications and implementing a comprehensive communication strategy to encourage increased giving to NHG funds. He/she works with various institutional stakeholders to develop and implement a variety of informative and inspiring materials that encourage philanthropic support to promote the funding priorities of NHG’s funds – these include writing and editing creative and powerful and compelling proposals, visually effective presentations, content for print and electronic donor newsletter, fundraising collateral, donor engagement event collateral, speeches, appreciation letters, web content, in-depth research, stewardship reports and other fundraising, donor stewardship and engagement content (print and electronic). He/she will project manage to deliver fundraising materials, and coordinates and oversees workflow of projects by ensuring timely preparation, production and delivery of projects, work with design houses to produce newsletters, brochures, stewardship reports and other related collaterals as needed.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Initiates, prepares and writes donor relations and fundraising content including solicitation and engagement emails, articles, website pages, features and commentaries on donors and gifts.
  • Develops proposals, reports, invitations, presentations and other print and web-based materials to support the Advancement team in fundraising from individuals, foundations and corporations.
  • Provides copywriting for fundraising and engagement marketing campaigns focused on encouraging constituents to give, attend events and keep their contact information up to date.
  • Project manages, writes and edits communications for NHG’s fundraising priorities with the goal of increasing Campaign awareness and highlighting successes.
  • Serves as a writer and project manager for stewardship-based communications to high level donors and prospects.
  • Capacity Building, through on-the- job training as well as supporting fundraising colleagues at both HQ and charity funds.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education/Training/Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of professional writing experience. Philanthropic and proposal writing experience preferred.
  • Higher education/ research or healthcare experience preferred.
  • At least a degree in any discipline, such as arts, marketing, or communications
  • Proficiency in MS Office is essential, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with Content Management Systems, HTML and Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
  • Ability to conduct research, interview subjects and write materials that are creative and interesting, with strong attention to detail, grammar and style rules.
  • Ability to accurately edit and proofread a variety of materials with time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to evaluate, interpret, and present complex information effectively in professionally prepared documents or presentations. Must possess a demonstrated attention to detail in order to achieve a high degree of accuracy.
