JOB SUMMARY
The Programme for Research in Epidemic Preparedness and REsponse (PREPARE) is a national programme set up by the Ministry of Health to strengthen Singapore’s capability to respond to future infectious disease threats. You will support the bioinformatics work required to establish a metagenomics platform for the identification and detection of emerging pathogens.

 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
SPECIFIC

  1. Develop and maintain bioinformatics tools and pipelines related to metagenomic sequencing for identification and detection of emerging pathogens. Initial focus would be on viral pathogens, with eventual expansion to other pathogens and scopes of analyses.
  2. Perform metagenomic sequencing data analysis and report key results.
  3. Work closely with the research team for analysis pipeline improvements and interpretation of results.
  4. For the position of Senior Bioinformatician, further responsibilities will include:
    • Coordinating collaborations to synergize expertise in bioinformatics analyses.
    • Supporting manuscript preparation for submission to peer-reviewed journals.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

  • For the position of Bioinformatician, minimum Diploma or Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biological Sciences or equivalent.
  • For the position of Senior Bioinformatician, minimum MSc in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biological Sciences or equivalent.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of genomics and bioinformatics concepts needed for analysis of next-generation sequencing data.
  • Preferably familiar with file management in the Unix/Linux environment, as well as Python programming and scripting languages required for bioinformatics data analysis (requirement for position of Senior Bioinformatician).

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Bioinformatics-related work experience would be an advantage.
  • Prior experience in publication of research findings would be an advantage (requirement for position of Senior Bioinformatician).
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Astute critical thinking skills and willingness to learn.
