Respiratory Technician (6mth Contract)
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1 Patient Care
-
- Perform basic pulmonary function testing for patients as requested by physicians.

- Assess patient’s history, medication, procedure request prior to procedure.
- Explain procedure and orientate patient to the lab setting.
- Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning.
- Conduct the basic lung function tests and calculate test results.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to patient needs / changes in well-being during the test.

- Exercise professional judgment to ensure patient safety. Escalate concern to senior staff where appropriate.
- Evaluate test reliability, patient’s performance, and clinical implications.

- Schedule patients’ appointment for lung function tests.

- Conduct diagnostic sleep studies according to established laboratory procedures. (When necessary).
2 Service Quality

- Maintain timely and accurate records of patients’ information (Procedures performed, and results).
-
- Comply with established guidelines of infection control practices.
-
- Perform calibration and quality checks.
-
- Maintain emergency trolleys, resuscitative and medical equipment.
-
- Check and maintain equipment and inventories.
-
- Ensure safe environment for staff, patients and public.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the department.

- Demonstrate TTSH Service with Excellence standards.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR GRADE 9

- Perform Exercise-based lung function tests, e.g. Exercise Induced Asthma Test

GENERAL

- Demonstrate good interpersonal skills with the public and staff.
- Provide guidance and support to new staff.
- Exercise economy and care in the use of resources.
- Monitor and order requisite consumables from in house.
- Assist in collating data.

- Actively participate as a member for quality improvement projects at Hospital-wide / Departmental level.

- Understand and follow hospital and departmental protocol for emergencies and disasters.

- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor / Head of Department.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
- EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
-
- Diploma holder preferably in Biotechnology, Biomedical Science, Life Sciences, Health Sciences or equivalent.
- Diploma holder in non-related areas can be considered if there is relevant work experience in healthcare environment of at least 2 years.
