SENIOR / RESEARCH ASSISTANT

 

You will be working closely with researchers at the Infectious Disease Research Laboratory (IDRL) at NCID, providing laboratory support for various internal and collaborative projects related to infectious diseases, with emphasis on bacterial whole-genome sequencing.

 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

SPECIFIC

  1. Conduct wet-bench work such as sample processing and storage, bacterial culture, PCR, nucleic acid extraction, library preparation and sequencing.
  2. Maintain inventory list of samples and related metadata.
  3. Optimization of sample processing and library preparation workflows.
  4. Recognize, identify, and troubleshoot problems related to specimens, methods and instrumentation.
  5. Procurement of consumables and reagents required, as well as ensuring depleting stocks are replenished.
  6. For the role of Senior Research Assistant, further to the above roles, to work closely with the post-doctoral fellows/team lead to plan and coordinate the research group’s lab operations as well as contribute to manuscript preparation.

  3. Comply with all safety regulations and infection control policies/procedures stipulated by the laboratory/institute.
  4. Contribute to maintaining a collaborative working environment.
  5. Any other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator/Team Lead.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

EDUCATION

  • Minimum Bachelor’s in Life Sciences, Molecular Biology or a related field.

EXPERIENCE

  • At least 1 year of lab-related work experience in microbiological and molecular wet-bench techniques (including sample processing and storage, bacterial culture, PCR, nucleic acid extraction) would be an advantage for the Research Assistant role, whilst at least 3 years of such experience would be an advantage for the Senior Research Assistant role.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong initiative, willingness to perform duties and learn new skills as and when required.
  • Prior experience in publication of research findings would be an advantage.
