Research Asst
JOB SUMMARY
Tan Tock Seng Hospital invites applications for a Research Assistant in the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine. This department is led by a team of experienced Public Health Specialists and is deeply committed to research in population health, communicable and non-communicable disease epidemiology, socio-behavioural sciences, and preventive medicine.
The job will be part of a team of clinical, allied health and research staff who are interested in understanding loneliness in older adults and the role of nature-based activities in addressing loneliness. Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Research Assistant will provide support for the research study by using both quantitative and qualitative methods to collect data for the study and facilitate workshops while ensuring proper conduct and implementation of all research activities. The Research Assistant will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and study team members on research-related duties to ensure successful translation of research findings into community health practice and policy.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
SPECIFIC
- Work with a multidisciplinary research team to design and implement mixed methods studies and community-based interventions in the area of preventive medicine.
- Recruit, liaise with, and collect data from research participants.
- Conduct in-depth interviews, facilitate co-design workshop sessions, and coordinate community-based interventions.
- Organize and manage both qualitative and quantitative data, ensuring data quality and validation.
- Support intervention implementation, monitoring, and evaluation activities.
- Analyze, interpret and integrate both qualitative and quantitative data generated from the study.
- Support literature reviews, conference presentations, and manuscript preparation as required.
GENERAL
- Ensure adherence to study protocols, ethical requirements, and standard operating procedures throughout all research activities.
- Manage complete and accurate documentation for Institutional Review Board submissions and amendments.
- Manage research documentation and ensure audit compliance.
- Prepare for site visits, audits, etc. by ensuring that all study files are complete and up to date.
- Coordinate with community partners and stakeholders for successful project implementation.
- Support procurement of research materials and management of project resources.
- Perform other duties as directed by the HOD and Principal Investigator.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
(A) EDUCATION AND TRAINING
- Minimum degree in relevant healthcare discipline (e.g. Nursing, Pharmacy, Psychology, Social Work, Gerontology) OR general degree with demonstrated interest in community-based research.
(B) EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 1-2 years of research experience
- Experience in working with older adults or community-based projects is preferred but not mandatory
- Competent oral and written English communication skills
- Oral and written proficiency in local languages (e.g Chinese, Malay, Chinese dialects) is preferred but not mandatory
- Astute critical thinking skills and ability to work independently and in a team
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work with older adults
- Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
- Proficiency in softwares such as SPSS, Stata, Nvivo preferred but not mandatory
- Strong initiative, willingness to perform duties and learn new skills as and when required
