Research Asst
We are currently recruiting a Research Assistant to join the team to manage the National Infectious Diseases Biorepository (NIDB) located in the CDA Research Laboratory (CRL) at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID). NIDB is a national resource for the systematic preservation of microbial specimens and associated materials to support public health efforts, outbreak preparedness and infectious diseases research and training. The candidate will be required to assist the Biorepository Scientific Officer (SSO) on the day-to-day operations of NIDB as well as to support in secretarial duties for NIDB management committees and project meetings. This involves administrative work to record minutes of meetings, check sample request/ deposit forms and management of the NIDB database. In addition, the candidate will work with the SSO to physically assess the integrity of samples and inventory checks. Relevant trainings are provided.
As the Research Assistant, you will be an essential member of the CRL division, and we welcome individuals with administrative and laboratory experience who are enthusiastic, organized and detail-oriented to apply.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage proper documentation of relevant research documents, inventories protocols, maintenance logs, sample processing logs etc.
- Manage and keep the NIDB REDCap database up to date.
- Responsible for all sample collection and storage activities.
- Need to ensure the relevant forms are filled by requestors and to follow up with requestors for any missing information.
- Physically check and sign off all new samples upon arrival at CRL.
- Retrieve samples from storage freezers for dispatch upon request.
- Take meeting minutes for NIDB meetings when required.
- Assist in the development, implementation and revision of standard operating procedure(s) for NIDB.
- Comply with all safety regulations / infection control policies and procedures stipulated by organization and national levels.
- Assist in planning and ordering of laboratory logistic requirements, workflows, documentation and execution of new studies, liaising with internal and external parties as needed.
- Characterize microorganism (bacteria, fungi viruses) while complying to appropriate biosafety regulations with CRL members.
- Perform other duties as directed by SSO and CRL director.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor of Science with a relevant major in biomedical science.
- Bench work skills required e.g. Real-time PCR, DNA extraction, tissue and aseptic technique.
- Prior work experience with biobanks would be an advantage.
- Prior microbiology lab experience would be an advantage.
- Experience with using the REDCap database preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
