Research Asst

JOB SUMMARY
 

1. Job Purpose

The VITAL (identifying Visual Impairment Types and impact on Activities and participation in Life) program is a research that aims to study the impact of different types of visual impairment on the daily lives of adults and older adults. It is intended that the research will enhance visual rehabilitation programmes in Singapore to empower people with visual impairment to continue participating well in daily living.

As a Research Assistant, he/she will work closely with the Occupational Therapy Team and visual rehabilitation team including Ophthalmologists and Optometrists in NHG hospitals.

The key responsibilities include supporting the implementation and evaluation of the research program as part of developing longer term plans to enhance visual rehabilitation programmes catered to the functional needs of people with visual impairment in Singapore. In addition, he/ she will provide operational support at assigned operating unit(s)/ area(s) across NHG institutions in improving the service delivery of visual rehabilitation services.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

SPECIFIC (70-80% of time)

Support the implementation and evaluation of VITAL research 

• Assist the study team in preparation of study protocols and other regulatory matters
• Assist in the screening and recruitment of study participants, consent taking, appointment making and follow ups
• Maintain a study log of participants
• Assist to extract relevant data and fill up the study forms
• Administer collection of key data components through interviews and questionnaires from participants
• Set up assessments and equipment
•  Take videos and photographs of participants’ performance during the assessments
• Ensure compliance of study progression in accordance to schedule

Provide operational support of VITAL research

• Enter, extract, process, analyze, compile data, statistics and reports for regular reporting to stakeholders (e.g. NHG institutions, LKCMedicine)
• Assist in drafting reports, papers and other documents as required
• Coordinate study related meetings and research activities among team members across NHG institutions

GENERAL (20-30% of time)

• Perform other duties as directed by supervisor, including work areas not mentioned here

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

Recognised Degree (preferably in Nursing or Health Sciences)

• Good Bachelor's Degree in any field
• Minimum 1 year of work experience is preferred
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Good spoken language proficiency in Mandarin and English. Spoken language proficiency in other languages like Malay will be an advantage.
• Familiarity with the healthcare setting and processes.  Experience in conducting interviews, data gathering and analysis will be an advantage
• Possess at least intermediate level for Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and able to generate quality reports and presentations with accuracy
