Research Asst
JOB SUMMARY
You will provide general laboratory support services for the research projects conducted at Infectious Disease Research Laboratory (IDRL) in NCID, which includes laboratory investigations and day-to-day management of laboratory activities and maintenance of the laboratory equipment.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
SPECIFIC
- Assist with PI’s grant funded research projects in IDRL. This will involve sample processing, nucleic acid extraction and running of qPCR multiplex panels, mammalian cell culture, virus culture and quantitation. Staff will be expected to handle a high sample workflow in a timely manner.
- Ensure proper documentation of sample receipt, storage and processing, as well as qPCR and other experimental results.
- Assist collaborator’s visiting staff/students to conduct experiments, coordinate sample delivery and communicate experimental results and outcomes.
- Manage project consumable and sample inventory and assist with purchasing.
GENERAL
- Ensure safe execution of experiments and adherence to SOPs and all safety & ethics regulations/policies and procedures stipulated by the lab and institution.
- Analyze experimental data and ensure proper documentation of results.
- Assist in general lab duties and housekeeping.
- Perform other duties as directed by supervisors and HOD, including work areas not mentioned here.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
- Diploma or degree in Microbiology, Life Sciences, Molecular Biology, Infectious Diseases or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
- Prior experience and familiarity with standard molecular and virology techniques e.g. qPCR, virus and mammalian cell culture.
- Prior experience with working in a BSL2 environment
- Prior experience in a clinical microbiology lab is advantageous
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
- Good oral and written communication skills
