Principal Respiratory Therapist
JOB PURPOSE
The Principal Respiratory Therapist will be responsible for planning, developing, coordinating and implementing the overall respiratory care policies, procedure and services. He / she will ensure efficient department operation.
He / she will also be responsible for the training and competencies of respiratory therapist. He / she will evaluate the effectiveness of the education program.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Administrative
- Develop new policies and update existing respiratory therapy policies and procedures.
- Monitor adherence to internal policies and procedures.
- Evaluate manpower needs and recruitment of staff.
- Appraise performance of all staff.
- Plan and schedule and ensure coverage in clinical areas.
- Delegate responsibilities to staff
- Coordinate and monitor departmental improvement projects
- Implement any necessary corrective actions.
- Coordinate in the evaluation of respiratory medical equipment and consumables.
- Ensure proper inventory of respiratory medical equipment and appropriate supply of consumable items.
- Monitor financial performance of respiratory therapy services.
- Create and review respiratory therapy charge code.
Training
- Develop and provide clinical respiratory education to the respiratory therapist.
- Develop and administer competencies to the staff.
- Assess and ensures clinical competency of the staff.
- Evaluate effectiveness of training programs.
- Develop and conduct the orientation of new staff.
- Conduct internal audits on the procedure and workflow.
- Evaluate effectiveness of training programs.
- Organize and facilitate respiratory therapy lectures.
General
- To conduct ventilator training to the nurses and doctors.
- To conduct ventilator training and competency to the assigned trainers of other department.
- To participate in departmental quality assurance and hospital wide organisational performance improvement activities.
- To comply with infection control practices.
- To undertake any other duties as may be assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education / Training / Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy (Masters Degree highly preferred)
- Preferably 10 years of clinical & training experience in Respiratory Therapy
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Candidate should be a Registered Respiratory Therapist
