Principal Respiratory Therapist

JOB PURPOSE

 

The Principal Respiratory Therapist will be responsible for planning, developing, coordinating and implementing the overall respiratory care policies, procedure and services. He / she will ensure efficient department operation.

 

He / she will also be responsible for the training and competencies of respiratory therapist. He / she will evaluate the effectiveness of the education program.

 

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Administrative

  1. Develop new policies and update existing respiratory therapy policies and procedures.
  2. Monitor adherence to internal policies and procedures.
  3. Evaluate manpower needs and recruitment of staff.
  4. Appraise performance of all staff.
  5. Plan and schedule and ensure coverage in clinical areas.
  6. Delegate responsibilities to staff
  7. Coordinate and monitor departmental improvement projects
  8. Implement any necessary corrective actions.
  9. Coordinate in the evaluation of respiratory medical equipment and consumables.
  10. Ensure proper inventory of respiratory medical equipment and appropriate supply of consumable items.
  11. Monitor financial performance of respiratory therapy services.
  12. Create and review respiratory therapy charge code.

 

Training

  1. Develop and provide clinical respiratory education to the respiratory therapist.
  2. Develop and administer competencies to the staff.
  3. Assess and ensures clinical competency of the staff.
  4. Evaluate effectiveness of training programs.
  5. Develop and conduct the orientation of new staff.
  6. Conduct internal audits on the procedure and workflow.
  7. Evaluate effectiveness of training programs.
  8. Organize and facilitate respiratory therapy lectures.

 

General

  1. To conduct ventilator training to the nurses and doctors.
  2. To conduct ventilator training and competency to the assigned trainers of other department.
  3. To participate in departmental quality assurance and hospital wide organisational performance improvement activities.
  4. To comply with infection control practices.
  5. To undertake any other duties as may be assigned.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education / Training / Experience

  1. Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy (Masters Degree highly preferred)
  2. Preferably 10 years of clinical & training experience in Respiratory Therapy
  3. Supervisory experience preferred
  4. Candidate should be a Registered Respiratory Therapist
