Phlebotomy Service Section Lead
You will be the Section Lead for Phlebotomy Services of the Dept of Laboratory Medicine at TTSH.
The duties include:
- Responsible for the smooth and efficient operations of the inpatient Phlebotomy Services, including oversight of training of Phlebotomists in venepuncture procedures and compliance to established venepuncture policies and procedures by the Phlebotomists.
- Ensures the efficient and effective utilisation of resources (manpower, supplies, equipment, capital and operational budgets, etc) in the Section, including overseeing daily and monthly deployment of staff.
- Monitors the department's Quality Indicators (e.g. errors, contamination rate, etc) and ensures that necessary corrective actions are implemented, when required.
- Ensures that all documents (e.g. work instructions) are controlled according to the department’s document control policy, reviewed and revised to meet accreditation and licensing requirements, and that staff read and sign the relevant documents.
- Oversees the development and review of Job Instructions and Job Improvements for department work processes as well as training and equipping staff to carry out their work correctly and safely.
- Ensures that new staff gets orientation and onboarding appropriately; receives adequate training to perform their duties competently before confirmation.
- Conducts on-the-job training, lectures, and workshops for new staff, as well as phlebotomy training programmes for staff from other departments and medical undergraduates.
- Monitors and assesses technical competencies and performance of staff.
- Conducts annual total performance management (TPM) of staff in the Section.
- Reviews incidents or near misses reported through the Portal for Risk identification and Safety Management (PRISM) and plans and implements corrective actions.
- Coordinates with other Sections/Depts in implementing initiatives or projects, such as the department’s business continuity plans, quality improvement, etc.
- Performs venepuncture according to established policies and procedures during exigencies (e.g. manpower shortage, mass casualty).
- As a Leader, you are responsible to supervise, coach, motivate and resolves conflicts between staff.
Requirements
- Preferably Diploma and above
- At least 5 years and above of supervisory and relevant working experience in phlebotomy services
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Thrives in fast paced environment and handling challenges
- Good organisational skills with attention to details
- Strong communication skills
