Pharmacy Technician
- JOB PURPOSE
This job description details the responsibilities and the general duties of the Pharmacy Technician (PT).
- MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the pharmacist in the processing of medication orders for inpatient and outpatient dispensing which includes typing, packing, labeling and distribution of drug supplies to the wards and other hospital departments.
- Perform billing functions and ensures that outstanding bills are recovered. This includes answering billing and subsidy enquiries.
- Dispenses medicines under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- To adhere with the policies and procedure pertaining to Good Dispensing Practice.
- Assist in providing quality customer service.
- Receive, unpack and check deliveries against the appropriate documents, to ensure that items supplied are correct and accounted for.
- Monitor and maintain inventory stock level of drugs in the areas of work.
- Perform stock receipts and issues/transfer in the inventory systems.
- During stocktake assist in counting the stock.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the work areas and prepare these for daily operations.
- Supports the hospital by participating actively in the various activities organized by the hospital. Activities include QC, community projects, staff welfare and recreational activities and etc.
- Liaise with compounding laboratory to place and confirm our extemporaneous and sterile preparation orders.
- Assisting Senior Pharmacy Technician to ensure adequate staffing on the floor by overseeing the manpower allocation table of each section to ensure smooth flow of day to day routine work.
- Assist in orientating and training new staff assigned to the section.
- Assist pharmacist in managing the operations in the assigned section.
- Acts as buddies to the newcomers
- Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
- SPECIALISED ROLES/ FUNCTIONS
- Assist Medication Safety in Charge by ensuring timely data collection and collation of error trending reports. Assist to investigate medication errors. Implement and monitor medication safety process improvement initiatives.
- Perform medication repackaging and quality checks as part of pharmacy automation system in accordance with repackaging procedures.
- Assist the Unit Dose Packaging Pharmacy In Charge in ensuring the smooth running of UDP operations, including manpower allocation, production job planning, handling enquiries from wards and perform simple troubleshooting of the automation machines
- Assist the pharmacist in the processing of medication orders for sterile and extemporaneous preparations according to USP guidelines.
- Ensure maintenance, sanitation and organization of clean room and related equipment according to policies and procedures.
- Maintain Pharmacy IT and Automation systems by ensuring timely and accurate updates.
- Take on the role of System Super-user and train pharmacy staff on the system usage.
- Work closely with various System Supports and Pharmacy Users on troubleshooting, system enhancement and workflow design.
- JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education / Training / Experience
- Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science OR Advanced Certificate Course in Pharmacy Support (Pharmacy Technician) OR Foreign Pharmacy Degree (non-registrable with SPC) AND undergoing structured in-house training & OJT in preparation for in-house competency assessment
