Clinical Care: Quality of Work
Maintain consistent standards of care by practising according to clinical and quality service standards established by the department and hospital, adhering to all relevant organisational and departmental guidelines.

Core responsibilities encompass examining patients with actual or potential visual impairments, evaluating examination results through clinical reasoning and analysis, and planning optometric services in patients' best interests based on comprehensive knowledge of eye conditions, indications, contraindications, and treatment protocols.

General eye investigations include refraction assessments, endothelial cell counts, corneal pachymetry, Hess and binocular single vision tests, bandage contact lens fitting, colour vision assessments, flare meter evaluations, and LogMAR visual acuity measurements.

Subspecialty services span Contact Lens Clinic operations, ultrasonography, Refractive Surgery Clinic support, low vision services, Octopus visual field assessments, Singapore Integrated Diabetic Retinopathy Program (SIDRP), electroretinography (ERG), eye screening programmes, Stable Eye Condition Clinic (SECC), Community Eye Clinic (CEC), and The Virtual Ophthalmology Service (TVOS).

Professional communication with patients, caregivers, medical practitioners, and allied health professionals, alongside comprehensive documentation of patient assessments, progress notes, and management plans according to hospital guidelines. Workload management includes maintaining patient statistics, planning unit coverage, and providing service coverage as required whilst maintaining Care, Empathy and Professionalism (CEP) standards.

Safety
Practice due diligence during all patient interactions to ensure patient safety, undertaking corrective actions immediately and consistently when feedback is provided.

Education

Supervision and Mentoring
Assist in co-supervision and co-training of staff members, students, or volunteers.

Delivery of Education
Educational responsibilities include delivering in-service training to intra-departmental colleagues and may involve conducting professional workshops and seminars for patients and the public.

Planning and Development
The position may involve assisting in organising continuing education opportunities for colleagues and developing educational resource materials.

Research & Quality

Update Practice & Quality Knowledge
Apply evidence-based practice in all clinical activities and may assist in quality improvement activities and projects.

Involvement in Research & Quality
Active participation in clinical projects is expected, including data collection, design, and analysis support. The Optometrist will participate in quality improvement activities at hospital and departmental levels.

Create & Communicate Evidence
Assisting in developing abstracts, posters, and oral presentations to share research findings and clinical insights.

Assist in managing services and resources to achieve departmental and hospital targets.

Leadership opportunities may include assisting in leading departmental workgroups and participating in departmental projects to deliver and improve service quality.
