Multi-skilled Therapy Assistant (ANDS)
The Therapy Assistant will be joining our Adult NeuroDevelopmental Service (ANDS) to carry out therapeutic interventions/activities for the patients in this service
Job responsibilities:
- Facilitate to carry out observation in the ward that includes:
- Behaviour observation methods (i.e. ABC chart, frequency monitoring, Setting Event Checklist)
- Communication style of patients
- Activities of daily living
- Carry out prescribed sensory, behavioural and communication strategies with selected patients.
- Train, supervise, maintain the functional skills of patients in the areas of basic activities for daily living, community living, social and recreational participation.
- Building individualized resources for the patients. To assist in improvement projects and construction of therapy materials (such as compilation of communication passports, doing up materials/visuals for activities, taking photo of new patients).
- To be communication partners for patients (such as intensive interaction and communicating with patients).
- Work closely and collaboratively with allied health professionals in the implementation of ward-based programmes and/or transition to community-based programmes for ANDS patients including portering for activities.
- To attend all necessary trainings and courses recommended by ANDS team including On Job Trainings and inservices.
- To complete documentation daily and to be co-signed by clinical supervisors by the end of the day.
- Adhere to infection control guidelines as stipulated in NHG/ IMH’s policy.
- Any other assigned tasks by the Reporting Officer and Clinical Supervisors.
Education and Experience Qualifications
- NITEC/Higher NITEC qualifications in Paramedic & Emergency Care, Community Care & Social Services or Nursing, with at least 2 years of related work experience, or
- Diploma qualifications in Health Sciences, sports, Physical Health or other related disciplines
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Team player with good communication and interpersonal skills
- A passion to work with patients, and a good learning attitude
- Experience in working with persons with intellectual disability and/or autism spectrum disorders is preferred
