Medical Laboratory Technologist

JOB SUMMARY

1. Perform clinical testing, routine lab operation and assigned activities.

2. Support all quality assurance activities and maintain good documentation.

3. Support projects related to the implementation of personalized or precision medicine.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

SPECIFIC (90%)

1. Lab Operation
   1. Perform sample processing and diagnostic testing of clinical samples independently.
   2. Analyse and interpret test result.
   3. Operate and maintain equipment.
   4. Update QC, specimen, waste disposal and equipment logs.
   5. Monitor inventories to ensure adequate consumables and reagents.
   6. Support lab administrative activities related to purchasing, laboratory information systems and accreditation.
   7. Participate in new test development and validation.
   8. Comply with safety regulations and procedures stipulated by the laboratory and hospital.
   9. Contribute to drafting of work plan and work instructions (WI).
   10. Support the lab’s research efforts related to precision medicine.
   11. Contribute to research presentations and manuscripts.
   12. Ensure laboratory cleanliness and perform assigned lab duties.

2. Quality Control
   1. Follow processes that meet the lab licensing and accreditation requirements.
   2. Keep accurate records of work undertaken.
   3. Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs.
   4. Ensure all changes to the scope, test kits, methodology of the assays are documented and approved by the Lab Director.
   5. Improve and enhance operational processes.
   6. Develop tools and best practices for clinical testing and implementation.

GENERAL (10%)

Any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor / Lab Director.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

(A) EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

BSc or BSc (Hon) in biomedical sciences or other relevant disciplines

(B) TRAINING/SKILLS REQUIREMENT

1. Knowledge and experience with standard molecular biology techniques including PCR, sequencing and genotyping.
2. Proficient in basic office applications (Word, Excel etc).
3. Experience with data analytics tools is desirable but not essential.
4. Experience in procurement processes and general lab housekeeping.
5. Working knowledge and experience with basic bioinformatics (Python, R etc) is desirable but not essential.
6. Meticulous and able to follow procedures.
7. Excellent organizational and data management skills.
8. Able to work in a team environment with good interpersonal skills.

EXPERIENCE

Prior lab experience in genomics or molecular biology with aminimum of 2 years working experience in a clinical lab is a plus.
