Primary Responsibilities and Duties

 

Bio-banking Operations

  1. Work with the Coordinator and Principal Investigators (PI) to identify patients recruited for clinical sample collection.
  2. Ensure that there is valid documented consent for the collection of clinical samples prior to collection.
  3. Be familiar with the protocols for sample collection, both general and specific to the study.
  4. Collection of clinical samples (tissue, blood or other body fluids) from the clinics and operating theatres. Technician will need to handle the samples according to prevailing SOPs and workflows.
  5. Perform sample processing work, such as preparation of plasma, serum, buffy coat, peripheral blood mononuclear cells, genomic material extraction. Processing work will limited to sample preparation for further experimentation but will not include downstream applications such as DNA analysis, ELISA etc.
  6. Ensure quality control parameters, both general and those specific to the study requirements.
  7. Assist in the maintenance of logs, including the screening, recruitment logs and the sample inventory, sample request and retrieval logs.
  8. Participate in audits involving banked samples

 

Administrative

  1. Assist in the preparation of the logs to update the PI and sponsors.
  2. Assist in maintenance of the relevant documentation in accordance with hospital and national policies. This will require the Coordinator to be familiar and up to date with HBRA, HTF regulations as well as institutional policies
  3. Assist in the maintenance of equipment, equipment and software maintenance contracts.
  4. Assist in stock taking and ordering of consumables required for bank related activities.
  5. Be involved in the communication between PIs, collaborators, partners, sponsors and regulatory bodies.
  6. Participate in initiatives to educate and advise PIs on clinical sample acquisition and use.
  7. Provide support and back-up coverage for other bank members as needed.

 

Secondary Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Encourage multi-disciplinary teamwork
  2. Ensures that procedures are current
  3. Participate in routine laboratory administrative work such as filing and processing of deliveries and stock management
  4. Organising and coordinating operational processes of areas assigned
  5. Performing other duties as assigned by the Head and Reporting Officer

 

Job Requirements

 

Qualification

  • Diploma/Degree in Biomedical Science, Biological Science, Biotechnology or related disciplines

 

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of laboratory work preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience
  • Prior experience in sample preparation preferred

 

Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Able to work independently and preform under pressure
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to work in a fast pace environment
