As the Manager of the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute (NHGEI) AI Lab, you will hold a dual-impact role, serving as both a Team Lead for technical execution and a Strategic Project Manager for clinical adoption. On the operational side, you will provide mentorship and direction to a multi-disciplinary team of AI engineers and researchers, ensuring technical deliverables meet high clinical standards. On the strategic side, you will act as the primary driver for AI deployment, navigating complex hospital informatics ecosystems and regulatory landscapes to move projects from 'testbed' to 'frontline'. Your goal is to translate NHGEI’s AI vision into scalable, operational realities that enhance clinical efficiency and patient outcomes.
In this pivotal role, you will lead a multidisciplinary team to drive the end-to-end lifecycle of AI development, validation, and clinical adoption at the NHGEI. Beyond technical oversight, you will act as a strategic facilitator, translating clinical operational needs into actionable AI solutions through close partnership with tertiary institutions and industry collaborators. You are responsible for orchestrating project roadmaps—ensuring all initiatives achieve seamless clinical integration while strictly adhering to cost, timeline, and quality benchmarks.
The scope of work includes but is not limited to:
Strategic Development and Operations
- Work with clinical operations of the various eye departments to understand eye clinic workflows and identify how AI solutions can improve operational efficiency.
- Develop strategies to scale AI solutions across National Healthcare Group eye departments.
- Proactively monitor global trends in ophthalmic AI to facilitate the rapid evaluation and clinical deployment of high-impact products
- Work with collaborators to explore commercialisation opportunities for developed solutions.
Grant and Project Management
- Grant writing and management for AI projects and oversee progress and utilisation of project funding, including preparation of progress reports
- Provide comprehensive project management for all AI projects, tracking schedules and activities for management reporting
- Coordinate with clinical users, project teams and collaborators from planning to implementation and operationalisation of AI solutions
Team and Partnership Management
- Manage a team of AI engineers, research assistant(s)and executive(s)
- Establish partnerships with Institute of Higher Learning (IHLs) and coordinate internship programmes
- Set up meetings with stakeholders, prepare presentation materials and document discussions for follow-up actions
Compliance and Administration
- Work with Data Protection Office to ensure adherence to data sharing policies when collaborating with external partners
- Partner with hospital informatics departments to ensure technical alignment and robust infrastructure for ophthalmic digital health projects
- Support team in seeking IT security clearances and submit relevant departmental requests
- Report directly to the NHGEI Head of Ophthalmic Innovation
- Any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
Requirements:
- Preferably a degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Project Management, Healthcare Management or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Project Management, preferably in healthcare technology or AI development projects
- Experience in grant writing and management will be an advantage
- Strong project coordination and communication skills with clinical users, technical teams and external partners
- Understanding of healthcare workflows and AI applications in clinical settings will be highly advantageous
- Well-versed in MS Office applications and project management tools
- Knowledge of data protection regulations and IT security requirements in healthcare environments
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
