Epidemiologist
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Monitor clinical surveillance data and prepare reports to track the occurrence of infectious diseases in the institution. Contact trace individuals who have been possibly exposed to infectious diseases within the institution.
To analyse clinical and/or surveillance data and provide relevant information and/or recommendation to prevent the recurrences of infectious diseases and improve patient outcomes.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(A) SPECIFIC (90%)
- Maintain accurate symptom and disease surveillance data record in a timely manner. (E.g. COVID-19 surveillance, Severe Influenza surveillance, Group A Streptococcus surveillance, TB surveillance, MOH Severe Illness and Deaths from Possible Infectious Causes (SIDPIC))
- Gather and summarise relevant clinical information of patient index for reporting, evaluation, and mitigation of infectious diseases exposure within the institution.
- Coordinate contact tracing efforts with the relevant parties and complete the case investigation in a timely manner. Ensure timely and accurate recording of information of contacts and actions based on operational guidelines and procedures.
- Conduct investigations and interviews in a professional and empathetic manner to trace those in close contact with the diagnosed case and to determine the exposure.
- Collaborate with internal departments and regulatory bodies in supporting the screening and/or isolation of exposed contacts.
- Provide information on testing and or isolation/quarantine procedures based on protocols and procedures. Monitor and keep record of the symptoms and/or test results of contacts identified, as required.
- Assist department in developing methods for various symptom and disease surveillance systems (E.g. nosocomial infections and multi-drug resistant organism (MDRO) surveillances); and maintain the accuracy and sustainability of surveillance systems for reporting of infectious diseases to relevant parties.
- Conduct epidemiological study and/or investigations using retrospective or prospectively-collected clinical data to generate relevant clinical insights or recommendations to improve patient outcomes.
(B) GENERAL (10%)
- Participation in department’s education program / journal clubs.
- Embrace continuous improvement through refinement of work performance.
- Any other projects, tasks and duties as assigned by Head of Clinical Epidemiology Unit or the Chairman Medical Board (CMB).
(A) EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- A Master’s Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or related fields is required.
- Working experience in the field of Epidemiology, conducting epidemiological research including preparation of study protocols, application of ethic review, and statistical analysis plans will be advantageous.
- Knowledge of statistical software (E.g. STATA, R, Python, SAS, SPSS, Epi Info) is required.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
