Successful candidates will be appointed to practice at one of the healthcare institutions within the National Healthcare Group network.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities:

The Consultant will carry out duties as directed by the Head of Department in accordance with hospital, National Healthcare Group, and Ministry of Health policies. Key clinical duties include reviewing all new admissions, conducting ward rounds with medical teams, and providing consultation on complex cases referred. The role involves briefing patients and their families on medical conditions and treatment plans, with particular attention to communication.

Leadership and Supervision:

As a senior clinician, the Consultant is expected to provide leadership across all staff levels, including comprehensive teaching, training, and research activities. The position involves training and supervising junior doctors, trainees, and residents, and may include serving as clinical supervisors.

Administrative and Quality Improvement:

The Consultant will attend departmental meetings and mortality and morbidity rounds, compile Confidential Mortality Reports for submission through appropriate channels, and represent the ward or hospital at Coroner's inquests or medico-legal hearings as required. The role includes planning, driving, and managing quality improvement projects at both departmental and hospital-wide levels, whilst serving as a change agent for organisational initiatives.

On-call Responsibilities:

The position may require ward rounds outside standard office hours, particularly during on-call periods and admitting nights.

Education and Professional Qualifications:

  • MBBS from Singapore universities or equivalent qualification registrable with Singapore Medical Council (SMC)
  • M.Med (NUS) or equivalent postgraduate qualification registrable with Singapore Accreditation Board.

Experience Requirements:

  • For locally qualified doctors: Minimum 1.5 to 2 years' experience as Associate Consultant
  • For overseas qualified doctors: Equivalent post-housemanship and specialty training experience as local graduates, plus minimum 3 years specialist experience post exit certification.
