Cardiac Technologist, Invasive Cardiac Lab
JOB SUMMARY
To perform recording of haemodynamics and electrophysiological data during invasive cardiac investigations such as right and left heart catheterization, coronary angiogram, coronary angioplasty, electrophysiology studies and pacemaker implantation.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
SPECIFIC
- Conducts pre-operative checking of patient to ensure the correct patient and correct procedure.
- Ensures correct entry of patient’s risk factors and other clinical data into the CIIMS (Cardiac Imaging and Information Management System or equivalent cardiac reports
- Performs ECG lead placement, blood pressure and pulse oximetry setup for haemodynamic monitoring.
- Identifies major life threatening ECG abnormalities and initiate emergency resuscitation as required.
- Monitors and reports change in a patient’s condition to the cardiologist.
- Performs in the role of haemodynamics recording and monitoring, generates accurate cath reports from diagnostic or interventional procedures.
- Performs technical procedures as required to an adequate level of competency as defined by the department (refer to orientation and clinical skills checklist).
- Maintains proper documentation of medications and event logs into cardiovascular information system (CCW)
- Prepare and complete consumables charge form for all the cases done in Invasive Cardiac Lab.
- Prepare Cardiac Data bank form for coordinator to collect from Invasive Cardiac Lab.
- Maintains technical equipment required for invasive cardiac studies in optimal condition.
- Prepares and set up equipment used for electrophysiology study (EPS).
- Operate RF generator for ablation under the direct supervision of EP cardiologists.
- Performs I-STAT machine daily stimulator check, liquid QC for new cartridges and yearly CAP test.
- Performs IVUS (Intravascular Ultrasound), FFR (Fractional Flow Reserve), OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) recording and measurement independently.
- Maintains and tops up emergency PCI-Cart
- Initiate and maintain immediate resuscitation in cardiac emergencies
- Performs on call duty as rostered.
GENERAL
- Orientates and guides new staff to ensure safe and effective standard of care for patients.
- Supervise, train and coach new/junior staff to meet departmental needs.
- Supervision of polytechnic students during their practical attachments
- Participates in MOH licensing and Ensure Safer System audit at department level.
- Participates in quality Improvement projects at Hospital-wide / Departmental level.
- Maintains professional growth and development through continuing education.
- Demonstrates good interpersonal and communication skills with the patients, next-of-kin, colleagues and supervisors.
- Exercises care in the use of equipment and supplies.
- Maintains general tidiness and cleanliness of the control room.
- Demonstrates familiarity with mass disaster plan and participate in the disaster exercise accordingly to assigned roles and responsibilities.
- Performs any other duties as assigned by the Reporting officer, doctors and Head of Department.

- Reports unusual occurrences and unsafe practices/events in accordance to the hospital quality standards.
- Practices standard precautions when delivering patient care.
- Maintains high standard in surgical asepsis and infection control principles in the lab.
- Supports new initiatives and changes implemented by the organization.
- Participates actively in Quality Improvement projects.
