Job Summary: 

The Assistant Director of Pathology Operations oversees pathology operations at TTSH, reporting to COO and Clinical HOD. This role drives operational efficiency, leads the centralisation of Anatomic Pathology services across NHG cluster, and implements patient-centric initiatives through strategic planning and inter-institutional collaboration to deliver better patient care.

 

Job Responsibilities: 

Centralisation of Anatomic Pathology (AP) Services within the NHG cluster

  • Support NHG Cluster to develop and implement, a comprehensive, sustainable business model for NHG AP – to centralise, harmonise, and consolidate resources and casemix at the cluster level – to improve oversight, enhance quality control and quality assurance measures, strengthen clinical collaborations for clinical excellence, and development of sub-specialty clinical expertise.
  • This will involve close collaborations and interactions, intra- and inter-institutionally, the harmonisation of cross-institutional clinical and operational workflows, inter-laboratory audits, sharing and learning within NHG.
  • Support the NHG Cluster in organising, collating, and presenting data to NHG Anatomic Pathology Steering Committee and NHG Digital Pathology Workgroup, for cluster related strategic projects and initiatives.
  • Prepare, review, and execute service agreements for the provision of AP services between TTSH, KTPH and WH, as well as other healthcare clusters or external laboratories.
  • Partner NHG Cluster and clinical leads for the planning, development and execution of strategic projects and initiatives, effectively, efficiently, and sustainably.

 

TTSH Pathology’s Renovation, Expansion, and Innovation

  • Coordinate the upgrading of facilities and equipment to meet Pathology’s service needs, including the preparation of technical specifications, review of proposals and space layouts for Pathology’s renovation, modifications, alteration and addition works – retrofitting current sites and/or the expansion in TTSH Medical Tower, coordinating and liaising with KTPH, WH and MOH/HH (as needed).
  • Partner Clinical HOD and clinical leads, to seek out and capitalise on improvement initiatives and opportunities to enhance service quality, productivity and/or efficiency, promoting staff growth and development in strategic niche areas of expertise.
  • Undertake feasibility, financial evaluation and analyses, to recommend cost-effective, high value, sustainable care models to Clinical HOD and TTSH senior management, for the implementation of projects and initiatives, effectively and sustainably.
  • Partner Clinical HOD and clinical leads, in process and workflow reviews and process improvement projects i.e., Digital Pathology, Robotics Process Automation, Quality Improvement projects, and adoption of new tools and technologies, i.e. the use of AI, GenAI, Agentic AI, robotics and automation for Pathology operations.

Financial and Resource Management

  • Review of Pathology’s financials, business model, expenditures and savings, cost-to-charge ratios, and revision of charges, to optimise Pathology’s financial sustainability.
  • Utilise data analytics for forecasting areas of high growth and/or high potential, streamlining workflows, reducing waste, and optimising resource allocation.
  • To ensure cost-effective use of AI-enabled Digital Pathology, including both off-the-shelf and customisable/trainable AI modules and/or platforms.

Compliance and Governance

  • Support the NHG Cluster Chief of Pathology in harmonising workflows and processes, and monitoring quality indicators for NHG Anatomic Pathology laboratories.
  • Assist in ensuring Pathology’s compliance to relevant regulations and policies, providing secretariat support for audits and accreditation.

Others

  • Engage, promote, and support inter-, intra-department / hospital level initiatives and events, underpinning the hospital’s commitment to excellence in healthcare delivery.

 

Job Requirement: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in any discipline, with preference given to candidates with advanced degrees.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in laboratory and/or operations.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and resource management.
  • Prior experience with biosafety management would be advantageous.
  • Experience in strategic planning and/or renovation works would be advantageous.
  • Meticulous and analytical, with good organisational and coordination skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work collaboratively and effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Proactive, service-orientated mindset, with a dedication to quality and efficiency in delivering better care to patients.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, with a mindset geared towards system-level thinking, continuous improvement and innovation.
